Adding a Favicon

A Favicon is the little “logo” or image that appears in to the left of the address bar.

Example:

You need a favicon before we start! It should be 16×16 pixels with the image format ending in either .ico, .jpg, or .gif.

Ok, so the code:

<link rel="icon" type="image/TYPE" href="IMAGE URL" />

Place this code in between your your <head> and </head> tags. You’ll need to also replace IMAGE URL with the URL of your favicon. Where it says TYPE, change it accordingly. For images that end in…
.gif – change TYPE to image/gif
.jpg – change TYPE to image/jpg
.ico – change TYPE to image/icon

Note that not all browsers are equal! You will not be able to see your favicon in Internet Explorer, but it will appear in Mozilla Firefox. ;)
