Installing a Premade Layout

Installing a premade layout is fairly easy, but for those who have never learned, the task can be daunting.
Premade layouts are usually downloaded in a zipped file. First you need to unzip this file [?].

After you have unzipped this file, the contents of the file usually contain files similar to the following:

  • index.html
  • style.css
  • images

If you have downloaded it with PHP and not HTML it might look more like this:

  • index.php
  • style.css
  • images
  • header.php
  • footer.php

Weather you have downloaded the HTML or PHP version, you want to start off editing the index. The layout creator might put markers and comments for where you should start editing (that’s what I do).

Weather you have either HTML or PHP, it doesn’t change the installation process. Once you have unzipped the file, made your pages and everything, you need to transfer it all to your website through your FTP [?]. If there are sub-folders like a folder called Images, keep those files within that folder and upload the folder. Upload everything to the main directory of your site. If there’s an images folder, leave the images in that folder and upload the folder itself, not the individual image files!

Now open up your site online and voilà! Your layout is up!
